You can volunteer with CTP in the following ways:

1. Conduct Technical Interviews

Volunteer as a technical interviewer to support CUNY Tech Prep students and candidates. This opportunity is a great fit for employed developers with experience conducting technical/whiteboarding interviews in JavaScript, Java, C++, and/or Python.

Technical interviews are approximately 45 minutes each. Volunteers can participate in our monthly virtual interview events hosted by CTP or conduct interviews on their own schedule based on availability.

Depending on the time of year, volunteers may:

• Conduct Mock Technical Interviews with current CTP Fellows preparing for entry-level software engineering and data roles.
• Interview CTP applicants during our admissions cycle (April–May) to help our team evaluate candidates for the incoming cohort.

3. Lead an Industry Workshop (rolling)

Good fit for those with expertise in a subject area you think would benefit entry-level tech candidates. Examples include: interview best practices, tech ethics, cloud technologies, and web security.

4. Sponsor or Support CTP Hacks (Summer)

CTP Hacks is our annual where CUNY Tech Prep fellows build software and data projects in teams. Sponsors make it possible, and sponsorship puts your company in front of NYC's next generation of tech talent.

Ways to get involved:

Sponsor: Provide venue space, meals, prizes, or swag, or make a financial contribution

Judge: Evaluate final team projects on the last day

Mentor: Guide teams as they build their projects

5. CTP Mentorship Program (CMP)

Become a CTP Mentor We’re looking for CTP industry partners and alumni who are interested in mentoring the next generation of tech leaders and supporting a current CTP fellow’s career development and job search.

As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Provide career insights and guidance through two individualized mentoring sessions

Conduct one mock technical interview to help a fellow prepare for the job search

Support a current CTP fellow as they navigate their career goals and professional development

Strengthen your own leadership and mentoring skills through the experience

The 2026–27 CTP Mentorship Program is expected to run from November 2026 through May 2027.

Mentor sign-up for the 2026 - 27 program is currently closed. Mentor sign-up for the next program cycle is expected to open in summer–fall 2027. Stay tuned!
